For some now, whether the character of Harrison Ford in the famous Indiana Jones franchise will be recast has been a hot topic of heated debate. While it is understandable that the actor cannot be expected to play the role forever, even to think of another actor in his place is akin to sin. Well, now you don’t have to consider that frightening possibility as Disney has confirmed Indiana Jones 5 is about to start production with Ford reprising the character of the iconic archaeologist, although this is the last time. we’ll see the actor don this priceless fedora.
At its highly anticipated Disney Investor Day event, Disney announced that Indiana Jones 5 will begin filming in the spring of next year, although pre-production for the same is already underway.
“Lucasfilm is in pre-production on the next Indiana Jones installment,” the company shared. “At the helm are James @ Mang0ld, director of Ford vs. Ferrari, and Indy himself, Harrison Ford, will be back to continue the journey of his iconic character. “
Lucasfilm is in pre-production on the upcoming Indiana Jones installment. At the helm are Ford v Ferrari manager James @ Mang0ld, and Indy himself, Harrison Ford, will be back to continue his iconic character’s journey. The adventure arrives in July 2022.
The announcement ends huge speculation that Ford might not return as a famous adventurer, because although he was confirmed to reprise the role in 2016, the film was later postponed until 2021. The actor was last seen as the famous returning adventurer. in 2008 in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. With the gap between the films already larger than what fans appreciated, the further delay, and the fact that Ford moved on to other projects in the years that followed gave way to crazier theories.
There has even been speculation that Chris Pratt will wear the Indian Jones bullwhip and leather jacket, but the 78-year-old actor, fortunately, has no plans to pass on his legacy yet. He had confirmed the same in 2016 during a conversation with Jimmy Kimmel, in which he pointed out that whenever the character had a new story, a new adventure, “I’ll be ready.”
“The opportunity to work with [producer] Steven [Spielberg] again and the chance to revisit this character that has made so many people happy – not to mention me,” he explained. “It’s a lot of fun playing this character. It’s great fun working with Steven. I can not wait to be there. “
As we already know, Oscar-nominated Ford v Ferrari director James Mangold will lead this next chapter in the adventurous life of Indiana Jones, replacing Steven Spielberg who directed the first four films of the franchise. This time he’s onboard as an executive producer, with Kathleen Kennedy and Lucasfilm’s Frank Marshall as producers. It was after Spielberg decided to pull out of development on the fifth and final Indiana Jones film which Mangold took over. And Marshall has already assured in a conversation with Collider that the Ford v Ferrari manager is perfect for the franchise.
“His love for the franchise. He is a great filmmaker. I think he has a relationship with Harrison as well. It was all the right songs that came together, at the right time, “he shared, adding that” Steven is sticking with it as a producer, so we have the best of everything. Well, the success of the film won’t be decided until after its release. Barring further delay, Dr. Jones’ fifth adventure is slated to hit theaters in July 2022.
